Phantom Manor, the Paris Haunted House
Phantom Manor is a dark ride in Frontierland at Disneyland Park, and it is Paris's answer to the Haunted Mansion found at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland. It is not a copy. The building is a decaying mansion above the Frontierland riverfront rather than a tidy colonial house, and it tells a specific story about a bride, which is darker in tone than its siblings. For many regular visitors it is the best-executed attraction in the resort.
What makes it different from the Haunted Mansion
The same ride system and the same basic idea, but a different narrative and a distinctly bleaker mood. Where the American versions lean on comedy, the Paris one commits to its ghost story, and the exterior is genuinely derelict rather than merely spooky. If you know the Haunted Mansion well, this is worth riding precisely because you will keep expecting beats that do not come.
Where to find it
Frontierland, on the left side of Disneyland Park as you face the castle, set on the rise above the river. It is in the first park, so a one-park ticket covers it. The exterior is visible from much of Frontierland and is one of the most photographed buildings in the resort.
When to ride
It is a high-capacity continuous-loading ride, so the queue moves even when it looks long. That makes it a poor candidate for paid queue-skipping and a good one for the middle of the day, when the coasters are at their worst.
Is it too frightening for children?
It is atmospheric rather than violent, with no sudden drops, but it is dark throughout and the tone is genuinely sombre. Younger children who are fine with the American Haunted Mansions sometimes are not fine with this one.
