Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain, Not Space Mountain
If you are looking for Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris, the ride is there but the name is not. It is called Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain, and it sits in Discoveryland inside Disneyland Park, the first of the two parks. It is an indoor and outdoor steel roller coaster that opened on 1 June 1995, and it is the most intense coaster in the resort. The Paris version is also the odd one out among the world's Space Mountains, for a reason worth knowing before you queue.
Why the name does not match
The attraction opened in 1995 themed to Jules Verne's 1865 novel From the Earth to the Moon, which is why it looks nothing like the versions in California or Florida — there is a giant cannon on the outside of the building. It was later reskinned with a Star Wars overlay and became Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain. Most English-language guides still call it Space Mountain, and so does almost everyone searching for it, which is why this page exists. Ask staff for Hyperspace Mountain and you will be understood either way.
What makes the Paris version different
It launches. Where other Space Mountains release you down a slope, this one fires you up the outside of the building on a catapult launch, and then runs a track with inversions. That combination makes it the most forceful ride at Disneyland Paris by a distance, and the one most likely to surprise someone expecting a gentle family coaster with the same name.
Where to find it and when to ride
Discoveryland is the metallic, Jules Verne-influenced land on the right-hand side of Disneyland Park as you face the castle. The queue is at its worst in the middle of the day. Ride it in the first hour after opening, or late in the evening while the crowd is gathering for the night show. It is one of the rides where the paid queue-skip product is most often worth the money.
Who should not ride it
Anyone uneasy about inversions or launches, and anyone who assumed from the name that this is the mild indoor coaster of the same name elsewhere. There is a height restriction, which is posted at the entrance and on the app; check it before you build a family plan around this ride.
